Frequently Asked Questions

What is the email forwarding service?

The email forwarding service provides a consistent way for others to contact you throughout your life by giving you a Rhodes Trust email address. All emails sent to your Rhodes Trust email address will be forwarded to your nominated email account. If you later change your personal email account all you need to do is update the forwarding email address associated with your Rhodes Trust address.

How does the email forwarding work?

You will be given a Rhodes Trust forwarding email address, currently with the rhodestrust.com domain, and you will nominate a personal email address for emails to be forwarded to. An account will then be created for you and you will receive a welcome email with a link you can use to set a password. You will then be able to log into the forwarding service, using your rhodestrust.com email address and password, and can view and change your personal email account.

Will I get a mailbox for my Rhodes Trust email account?

No, this is an email forwarding service only. All emails sent to your Rhodes Trust email will be forwarded to your nominated personal email account. They will not be stored by the forwarding service.

How do I change my forwarding email address?

To change your forwarding address, log into your account here, change your forwarding email address and then click on the save button.

What do I do if I forget my password?

Go to the login screen, enter your Rhodes Trust email address and select the forgotten password link. An email with a link you can use to reset your password will be sent to your nominated forwarding address. If you no longer have access to your forwarding email account then please contact us at alumni@rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk and we can change your forwarding address so you can use the forgotten password functionality.

Can I send emails from my Rhodes Trust email account?

No, the service will only forward messages sent to your Rhodes Trust email account. However, it is possible to configure a Gmail account to send messages as if they are coming from your Rhodes Trust email account. See instructions below.

Can I configure my Gmail account to send messages from my Rhodes Trust email account?

Yes, you can add your Rhodes Trust email address to your Gmail account as a 'Send mail as' address. To do this your Gmail account needs to have Two-Step Verification activated so please set that up from these pages if you have not already done so.
Once that is set up please follow these steps to add your Rhodes Trust email address to your Gmail account. Please note the following details:
  • In the pop-up box enter your Rhodes Trust email address (i.e. x.y.z@rhodestrust.com) and uncheck 'Treat as an alias'.
  • Enter smtp.gmail.com in the SMTP server field.
  • Enter your full Gmail address in the Username field.
  • Generate an App Password in Google Accounts at https://security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords and use that for the account password.
  • Leave 'Secured connection using TLS' selected.
After you are done, an email will be sent to your Rhodes Trust email address, and forwarded to your personal address, acknowledging your request to add your account to Gmail. The email will contain a confirmation code - enter that code into the pop-up box when requested to complete the configuration process. You can then use Gmail to send messages from your Rhodes Trust email address.
